Some weeks I’m just not in the mood for a workout; or just too busy. This week I’m on the road (from my home office) 3 out of 5 work days and today I’m tired due to working in the yard all weekend. I’m just not motivated to work out.
While Home Workouts are convenient and casual, on your schedule, they can also be less motivating. There’s nobody home who’s going to tell me that if I don’t get moving, my workout consistency (and progress) will slide, or better yet, turn into a 2 month hiatus! Yup, that’s happened.
So how do you keep motivated for a home workout? Here are some suggestions that work for me:
- Get Dressed! Its 10am and I’m still in my jammies…sliding into my workout clothes as soon as I get up, I’m dressed and ready to go!
- Get Moving! Go out and take a walk around the block. You’re already dressed, so taking in 15-30 minutes of fresh air says “good morning!” to your brain and body, and take your pet (if applicable) – they’ll love you for it!
- Schedule the Time! I keep a white board with my list of things to do for the day…if a workout is not planned ahead of time; it’s usually not going to fit on that schedule. I write it in the evening before – and although I may change the timing, I’m always much happier when I can cross it off the list after completing during the day.
- Reward Yourself! I have a payback jar…I put $1 into the jar for each workout completed and at the end of the month, get to buy myself something fun or delicious, a splurge really, for sticking with my commitment.
So now that I’ve totally motivated myself to get dressed and get moving…I’m actually looking forward to the day! Feel free to share your comments…what motivates you to work out from home?
