Video: Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon

Today’s video, Portland Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon 2012 with Kara Goucher, Ryan Bak, Sage Canaday, Craig Leon, is brought to you by Vo2maxProductions.

On Saturday May 19th, 2012, Portland hosted its inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.

Notable participants included Kara Goucher and Sage Canaday.

Kara is an American long-distance runner who was the 10,000 meters bronze medalist at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, and represented the USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kara currently resides in Portland, Oregon, and runs under coach Alberto Salazar with the Nike Oregon Project.

Sage is a 2-time Olympic trials qualifier who in 2007 was the youngest participant in the Olympic marathon trials at the age of 21. Sage looks to continue competing at a high level on the roads and trails at distances from the half marathon to 100k for the rest of the year.

Use bootcamp and kettlebells to cross train for marathons

I thought it would be fun to share this video because some clients of mine have been cross training with me in bootcamps to help prepare for this race.

One client in particular came to me a few months ago with aspirations to run this race. This client, who had never in his life ran a half marathon, seemed skeptical when I told him that core training would help him become a better runner and improve his overall athleticism. I had a chance to speak with him after the race and he told me that not only did he finish, but he powered through to the end and left his friends behind.

    Congratulations to your client! I’ve always wanted to do one of the Rock and Roll races – I hear they are a lot of fun and the finisher medals are awesome 🙂

    I’m gearing up for a half marathon next month, and I am going to be swinging kettlebells, lunging and working my abdominals for the next 5 weeks. I’ll probably do more core training than running for this one.
